About the Photographer, Ernie Baca

Ernest Paul Baca was born in Holbrook, AZ on May 28, 1961. Soon afterward his family moved to southern Utah where he was raised on the eastern border of Zion National Park. His love for the photographic eye began in Junior High School. Several years later he was appointed editor and photographer of the High School year book.

Ernie Baca - Enchanted Light photographerImmediately following graduation from high school, he began training in the martial arts. Within 18 months he received his first black belt. His specialty soon became weapons and he began traveling the United States competing in black belt competitions throughout the nation. Within a short time he was awarded the rank of National Champion with standing among the top 15 weapons experts in the United States.

With the same discipline and ultra determination he has approached the media of photography. The inspiration and love he feels for this treasured area of planet Earth is readily apparent in his fine art prints. With gentle care he personally prints, mounts, and frames his chosen art to the highest archival standards.

He has used several format cameras, but his primary choice is now the Canon 1DS mark II 17 megapixel.

From his childhood hobby of capturing brief moments in time, his photographic art is now displayed with bold design and unique color schemes. Through penetrate intuition, he is able to capture the subdued as well as the sharply clear. From the subtle to the stark reality no moment of time should be taken for granted, for all is an ever-changing component of our immediate present. No moment is ever truly repeatable. The eye must be instantly aware of the unexpected convergence of light and form. Being ready to capture that absolute moment requires a clear understanding of outdoor optical phenomena. From many years of trained observation, he has learned to perceive that moment when all the elements are perfectly aligned.

From the Artist:

Having lived all the Seasons of my life in northern Arizona and southern Utah, I have observed that it is impossible to capture the same scene twice. As the seasons come, they also fade away. As with the days of our lives, these seasons of light and shadow are perpetually moving, changing and constantly becoming anew. This ever-living change of luminosity is a wonder of Enchantment, each day becoming a fresh and vivid experience. Through the eye of the lens our mind considers each day and season as a new creation of splendor. It is mystical indeed when one is able to capture on film the essence of this awe-inspiring grandeur. Through years of patience I have been able to hone the sight necessary to view the subtle, hidden layer of unsurpassed beauty all around me. If it were possible to capture the scent and the gentle breeze, I would then be truly satisfied with my work.

I deem it an honor for you to view a small segment of my work. It is my hope that you, too, will sense the wonder of Enchanted Light.
